Small Blog Meet-up & WIP Update

For this update, I’ve decided to link up with the Small Blog Meet-up.

Lily's Quilts

There are so many wonderful craft blogs out in cyberspace, that I figured it was time to meet some fellow crafters/quilters behind my limited circle of family/friends I have now. I am super excited to meet and greet everyone in the Small Blog Meet-up!

WIP Update

As I mentioned before, I am participating in the Modern Mystery Quilt Along. Part 4 begins this Wednesday (October 3) and I’m already a week behind! Good grief. Part 2 involved making 30 semi-circle pieces, which totally threw me for a loop. Ha! Get it? ….threw me for a loop…. not funny? Okay, nevermind. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I’m not too experienced with circles, so that part slowed me down a lot. Not saying I can’t make semi-circles… just that I’m slow at them. πŸ™‚ Slow because I’m such a perfectionist that I refuse to leave any folds in the seam, so rather than having to re-do each seam, I take my time to make sure it’s done right in the first place. Oh well, Part 3 should be easy enough to catch up on since it involves only straight edged shapes. hehe.

Here is what I have done so far:

Part 1: Left / Part 2: Right

The instructions for the quilt say to use several different colors of fabric, but I decided to go with pink, purple, and yellow as my main colors. I had a lot of those colors in my stash fabric, so I figured what better way to use up the scraps? Like I said, Part 4 starts this week, but I’m so far behind I haven’t even started on Part 3. Whoops! Lucky for me, Part 3 is a lot like Part 1 (on the left) so it should be fairly easy to catch up. If only semi-circles weren’t so tedious and slow. Hehe.

In Other News

Has anyone else had a problem with trying to divide your time between the social/business aspects of sewing along side the actual sewing? I’m currently battling that problem myself. Honestly, the social/business aspect of sewing is painful, time-consuming, and addicting.

I’ve been so obsessed with figuring out the best logo and layout for my blog/etsy store/twitter etc. that I haven’t gotten much sewing done lately. Perhaps all the technical difficulties (such as blog layouts and logo designs) wouldn’t be so difficult if I wasn’t so technologically challenged πŸ™‚

Lately I’ve been having problems with Blogger as well. I would like to create a custom domain name for my blog, but Blogger seems to be having issues and is “fixing” the problem. Though the problem doesn’t seem to be getting fixed very fast. So I’ve been looking into other options, which lead to a lot of research about website building, hosting, WordPress, Godaddy, etc. I’ve done so much research on all of that, I think my head is going to explode! Plus, I don’t seem to be any closer to an answer to my problems. *Sigh* I really should just cave and hire someone and go back to the sewing room where I belong. πŸ™‚

  1. Oh, circles. Actually, anything round. I feel like I'm finally getting along with triangles, so circles are going to have to wait a bit for me. (It's cool–I'm worth waiting for.) Also, I LOVE your rainbow quilt. That fire and ice pattern is fierce, and that gradiated shift in the rainbow version is delightful! I can only imagine how complicated that was to keep orderly!

  2. Hehe. Circles aren't so bad once you get used to them. They are confusing as crap until there is a *light bulb* moment, and then they become easy. Tedious and slow, but easy. :)Thanks for the Rainbow quilt comments! I'll admit, keeping the pieces in order was a bit confusing. πŸ™‚

  3. Dropping by today through Lily's Quilts…I think it's always hard to balance the online activities with the actual sewing — even when you're not doing it as a business. I seem to sway one way or the other from week to week — either lots of sewing or lots of blogging and online reading!

  4. The idea of the mystery quilt sounds interesting. I'm going to check it out. However, the last thing I need is another project, so instead I'll just follow along and see how yours is coming:)I also struggle with the balance of networking/blog activity and actual sewing. As a matter of fact, I'm supposed to be cutting some potholders right now.
