WIP Wednesday: BOM

After a week of house/doggy sitting, I’m finally making some progress on sewing again. I’ve been working on the Scrap Happy Sampler BOM. I’ve been painfully refraining from purchasing new fabric, so this scrap happy sampler is perfect since it’s a new project without buying any new fabric. 🙂

Here is my January Block finally finished.

Don’t look too closely at my seams, they are atrocious. LOL. It was my first block using set in seams, so I really had no idea what I was doing. Plus, not all of my scraps are top notch quilting cotton, so that was another unforeseen challenge.Overall, if you stand back the block looks pretty good, so that’s all I care about. 🙂 I learned a lot, and the star just looks super cool if I do say so myself.

I’ve also gotten a start on February’s Scrap Happy BOM as well. The February block is all hand sewing English paper pieced hexagons….yet another technique I had never tried before. I must say the hexagons are a lot easier than I expected.

I was lucky enough to win some precut paper hexagons from the very lady putting on this BOM, so that’s awesome!! I also have all of the fabric hexagons cut, so I might actually be able to finish the February block IN February! Woohoo!

*Side note* I decided to arrange the hexi-flowers in rainbow order as a tribute to my friend Sarah’s rainbow quilt since these are scraps from that quilt. 🙂

In other unrelated non-WIP news, I also won some super cool potholders from Quilty Therapy. Several months ago, she had a contest on her blog asking for opinions on which Marmalade quilt we liked better between her boy and girl quilt. Through random chance, my comment was picked as the winner. Another woohoo!! So I recieved some Marmalade potholders she made using the scraps from the quilt I liked best.

And in OTHER news, I finally got back the pin cushion from the Modern Quilt Guild pin cushion swap that took place a few months ago. My pin cushion is super cool. The lady who made it is actually in the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild which was the headquarters from the whole swap, so that’s pretty neat too. The filling is crushed walnut shells, which I had never thought of putting inside a pin cushion before. It actually feels like rice inside, so it’s a weird sensation for a pin cushion, but so far it’s worked about pretty good. 🙂

As usual for WIP Wednesday, I’m linking up with Freshly Pieced’s WIP Wednesday. 🙂
